The awards banquet for the Ontario Competitive Trail Riders Association was this weekend was this past weekend. Linda and I carpooled to Cobourg after a long fun day at the barn, and met up with Solstice and Phyllis who we were splitting a room with.
I was a little disappointed with the room, despite being in a non-smoking room (I didn’t even realize smoking rooms even existed anymore!), the whole hallway smelled overwhelmingly of smoke. Gross. The room was also way too small for 4 of us and the dogs and our stuff – the second bed was a pull out couch and we had about 1.5 foot of space between the end of the bed and the wall. Somehow we managed, but some climbing on beds was necessary to get around while we were getting ready to go to dinner (as we were also hosting Michelle and Rick in our room)
Other than that, the night was wonderful! I received a few awards and had a great dinner.
The BEST part of the awards banquet however, was the support that I received from everyone. The OCTRA group is a tight knit community, and everyone was so excited for me and my upcoming adventure. Despite not saying anything over the mic, I had friends approaching me all night with kind words, helpful advice, and wanting to get a shirt or two to support me. It was so touching and though I stayed up way past my bedtime and was exhausted, I could not have been happier! It really meant so much to me.
From a fundraising standpoint too, it was very successful! At the end of the night, I had sold out of all my small and medium shirts (including the ones off my back!) and only had 10 t-shirts left and people asking for more. What a wonderful problem to have! Everyone seemed to like my design and my choice of product too. If you didn’t get one, rest assured, I am picking up more this Friday.
