Summer Solstice wasn’t just another ride it was my birthday ride. It is almost like a tradition every year I go to Summer Solstice. This year with an extra special year I am now 16 years old. So I not only had a birthday party with some friends at home, I had a birthday party with the people I spend a lot of time with riding with in the ride season, as well who doesn’t like to ride on their birthday. I signed up to ride a 14 mile moonlight ride on Saturday and a 50 mile ride on Sunday.
I started the moonlight ride at 7:30 on Saturday night and ended around 10:30. I put my horse back in her paddock and went to bed.
I woke up at 6am on Sunday and got myself and my horse ready to go out. The loop were red, blue, blue, red they were all around 12 miles. I started riding with Desi, it was her first 50 this year. So we did the first loop at my usual speed, but the vet told us that Desi should probably slow down, so we split up on the second loop. On the third loop I did a lot of cantering so I made up about 5 minutes on the leader. I also got to see a fox on this loop, at first I thought it was a cat, as I got closer I figured out it was a fox. On the final loop Angel was still excited to go out. We finished the 50 in 5hr 26mins, which I was very proud of. At the end Angel still had lots of energy.
At awards I got 5th place out of 30 people that were registered. As usual I received high vet score, but what surprised me was I also won Best Condition, I was told I won by two points. So as you would probably think I had a pretty great birthday. To top it all off on Monday around 9am my papillon dog, Bella started giving birth. She had four puppies in total and they are all happy, healthy little baby’s. Three are girls and on is a boy. Sadly I am not allowed to keep any, but it is always nice to see them grow up for a little bit. If you know anyone who may be interested in purchasing a puppy, please call me for more information, 905-269-5289.
In a couple of weeks I’m going to Kentucky to compete for Canada in young riders. I am both excited and nervous, but I’m going there to complete and to finish so that is all I’m asking for.
